Colonna’s Shipyard, Inc. (“Colonna’s)”), founded in 1875 and headquartered in Norfolk, VA, is the oldest family-owned ship repair yard in the U.S. having extensive capabilities in commercial and government ship repair, machining, and large steel fabrication. As part of its strategic growth initiatives it sought, by acquisition, to add complementary services to augment existing capabilities, and to diversify and expand the industrial markets it serves. Working closely with Windward Advisors, Bob Boyd, Vice President, Strategic Growth & Development of Colonna’s, provided specific particulars as to desirable characteristics of potential acquisition candidates. The particulars were then used by Windward Advisors to conduct an extensive search to identify possible candidates, make contact, perform initial diligence, and arrange for meaningful dialogue with the Colonna’s team. Accurity, a highly skilled mechanical services company serving the needs of industrial customers in the Southeast and Midwest, was one of those candidates that satisfied many of the Colonna’s needs.
